Mayor I have requested the General Manager Planning and Infrastructure answer this question Response by the General Manager Planning and Infrastructure: Thank you Mayor. In 2015, Homewood consultants produced a comprehensive arborist report on the tree health of Monterey cypresses on the main roads in the Borough. It projected that 119 trees are expected to reach their end of life expectancy at various times over the coming twenty years. It is likely that a significant number of these will die in the Avenue of Honour and will need to be replaced. On receiving the report Council took immediate action in relation to those trees that presented an immediate public safety risk. Inspections continue at a frequency agreed to by the arborist. Council will continue to take action on other trees as they present a public safety risk and remove and replace trees accordingly. A Community Reference Group has been established to guide a specific planting and replacement plan for the Avenue of Honour. The Avenue of Honour is defined by the trees planted commencing at the western approach from the Murray Road traffic lights through to the eastern approach concluding at Swanston Street in Queenscliff. A new inspection of the Monterey cypress pine trees by the consultants was completed last Friday and a report is currently being prepared. Once this report is finalized it will be made publically available and Council will undertake works as recommended.
